Willis Carrier was born on November 26, 1876, in Angola, New York. His father was
Duane Williams Carrier and his mother was Elizabeth R. Haviland. He studied at
Cornell University. He graduated in 1901 with a high degree. He was a curious
student and always wanted to invent something new. After he finished university,
he did many experiments on how to heat the air. He failed many times but didn’t
give up testing. Finally, he could find a way to heat the air. It was the first step of
modern air conditioners. After a short time, he conducted some experiments at
his lab and found a way how to cool the air, too. Thanks to him, we can cool our
rooms and classes with his invention, the air conditioner. The main aim of his life
was “Try, try and never give up”.
